If you’re wondering where to eat in Stockholm, we’ve got you covered – because one of our favourite ways to explore a city, is through its food. Stockholm is full of great food, from cosy cafes and traditional Swedish dishes to waterfront brunch spots and Michelin-star dining. Honestly, it was a highlight of the trip for us – we were so pleasantly surprised with the food scene, with satisfied bellies by the end of the trip. In this post, we’re sharing our honest recommendations for the best food spots in Stockholm. Whether you’re here for a weekend break or a longer stay, this list will help you discover the best places to eat, drink and be merry.
Dinner Spots
Blå dörren, Slussen
This was located just round the corner from our air bnb in Slussen. It was recommended to us by our lovely host. With mediocre reviews, we weren’t expecting much. However, this ended up being our favourite meal of the trip! It has a super cosy and warm atmosphere, friendly staff and reasonably priced. The décor is almost French-like, with checkered table coths and lit candles. We went to Stockholm in October and so was super fitting for the time of year. If you get a chance to visit, order the “Pytt I Panna”, so delicious.

TIP 💡 Alcohol is tremendously taxed in Sweden, as well as the other Scandinavian countries. So, expect £10 pints – however we found the food and all other expenses very similar to the UK. When we refer to ‘reasonably priced’ this is taken into consideration!
Stockholms Gästabud, Gamla Stan
A fan favourite and tourist hot spot, we managed to catch this restaurant on a quiet day for lunch before we flew home. Seated in a cosy corner by the window, we ordered Klassik SOS, Gästabuds Köttbular and Smörstekt lax. If you are looking for traditional Swedish food to its core – this must be the place 💌. We can confidently say, this is worth the hype! Upon reflection, we would definitely queue for this food on a busy day!
The Hairy Pig Restaurant, Gamla Stan
On a whim, we chose this spot while searching for somewhere warm and hearty. Known for classic Swedish game dishes, it had the cosy feel of a posh British pub. The menu was small but seasonal, which made the food feel extra fresh. We tried the infamous Swedish meatballs and a leg of reindeer — the perfect comfort meal on a chilly Stockholm evening. Highly recommended!
Casual Lunch Spots
Östermalms Food Hall, Östermalm
If there’s one thing the Scandinavians are known for, it’s fantastic food halls. Absolutely pristine, as you walk into this building, it is overwhelmingly spectacular (true to scandi style). With a wealth of options from sit down fine dining to fresh fruit markets, this place has it all. We would recommend having a wander around the beautiful building to begin with before choosing a spot. We had lunch at M Seger – it was the perfect balance of fine dining and hearty food!
Fika & Wine, Gamla Stan
This little gem is located a stones throw from Stockholms Gästabud and is the perfect spot for a quick lunch. With the option to sit outside or in, there is something on the menu for you to indulge in the gorgeous cultural ritual of the infamous Swedish fika. A time to pause, relax, and a moment to reconnect amidst the chaos of your busy day. A ritual we can wholeheartedly get on board with 🫶🏻.

TIP 💡 We would recommend booking Fika & Wine to avoid disappointment, if you can! It’s a popular spot in the heart of the old town.
Fabrique, Gamla Stan
We stopped here for Fika on a few occasions throughout our visit. It’s located conveniently close to the metro station, and a stones throw from the typical meeting point of the old town walking tours. Perfect for some well deserved pause time.
Quick Stops
7/11
Famously recognised across the globe, it’s no surprise that the infamous 7/11 in Stockholm is a solid option for your everyday snacks and walking lunches. With options stemming from traditional swedish crisps to hot counters offering hot dogs and burgers. There is something for everyone, guaranteed to satisfy any need.
Organico
If you are anything like us, and like to hunt for wholefoods to keep yourself feeling good when you’re travelling, finding little gems like this is great. Organico is a small organic supermarket café where you can pick up coffee, snacks and homemade lunches to takeaway. With fully displayed, clean ingredients, you know you are in good hands. The ultimate heaven of health.
